Brian Bertrand Obituary: It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mr. Brian Olur Bertrand announces his passing on February 29th, at the age of 70, from a sudden heart attack. Born and raised in the Texas Panhandle, just outside the town of White Deer, Brian’s journey through life was characterized by a deep connection to his roots, a steadfast commitment to his family, and a tireless dedication to his community.
Brian’s early years were spent amidst the vast expanse of the Texas plains, where his family cultivated wheat and tended to dairy farms. In the 1960s, the Bertrand family relocated to Rome, Georgia, drawn by the opportunity for Brian’s father, Mr. Bell Olur Bertrand, to work at the farm of Berry College, under the leadership of his uncle, Dr. John Raney Bertrand, the college’s president.
Brian’s education journey led him to graduate from Armuchee High School in 1972, setting the stage for a lifetime of hard work and service. He married and raised his family in Rome, where he became deeply ingrained in the fabric of the community.
For over 25 years, Brian dedicated himself to his work at Galey & Lord’s mill in Shannon, Georgia, a commitment that was honored by the company with a certificate of appreciation. Later, he spent 15 years working for Walmart, where his strong work ethic and warm demeanor endeared him to colleagues and customers alike.
Throughout his life, Brian was guided by the values instilled in him by his tight-knit family. He was the beloved son of Mr. Bell Olur Bertrand and Mrs. Gertrude Wall Bertrand, late of Rome, Georgia. His late brother, Mr. Otis Bertrand, preceded him in death, but Brian is survived by his sister, Mrs. Arlene Bertrand Owen, of Foley, Alabama.
Brian leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion through his children: daughter Jennifer Bertrand of Adairsville, Georgia, and son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bradley Bertrand, of Nauvoo, Alabama. His impact extends beyond his immediate family, touching the lives of his nephews, step-grandchildren, grand-niece, and a multitude of cousins and relatives across the country.
To all who knew him, Brian was a beacon of kindness, generosity, and warmth. He was dearly loved by his family and friends, who will cherish the memories of his laughter, his unwavering support, and his genuine compassion.
In honoring Brian’s memory, let us reflect on the profound impact of his life—a life rooted in family, community, and the timeless values of love and service. As we gather to bid farewell at the graveside service on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Floyd Memory Gardens, let us celebrate the legacy of a remarkable man who touched the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Though Brian may have left this earthly realm, his spirit will forever endure in the lives he touched and the memories he created. Rest in peace, dear Brian, knowing that your legacy of love and compassion will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those who were blessed to call you family and friend.
