He leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and service that will forever be cherished by all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Born on August 12, 1938, in Elkins, WV, Robert was a shining example of strength, wisdom, and kindness. Throughout his life, he remained a steadfast pillar of support for his family, offering unwavering love, guidance, and encouragement to all who crossed his path. As a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, he touched countless lives with his boundless generosity and integrity.

Robert’s journey of service and dedication began with his education at West Virginia University, where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Engineering. His passion for engineering led him to pursue a career as a professional civil engineer, where he worked tirelessly for 30 years at Columbia Gas Transmission Corporation.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Robert was an avid outdoorsman who found solace and joy in nature. He spent many happy hours fishing, scouting, hunting, and cultivating his garden, which he lovingly tended and shared with family, friends, and neighbors.

Robert leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in his cherished family: his beloved wife of 65 years, Roberta Anne Collett (Wilhelm), and his adoring children, Robert S. Collett III (Marti), Kimberli A. Collett, James E. Collett (Donna), and Philip A.H. Collett (Angie). He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family members and friends, all of whom were touched by his kindness and grace.

In addition to his roles within the family, Robert made significant contributions to organizations such as Gideon’s International, where he served faithfully for many years, and participated in numerous international missions with the Nazarene Work and Witness Ministry. He also dedicated his time to coaching youth sports teams, teaching Sunday School, and serving in leadership positions at his churches.

A celebration of Robert’s life will be held at Valley Funeral Service in Edinburg, VA, on Monday, March 18, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to gather together to honor his memory and share stories of his remarkable life.
