Bettie Jennings obituary: Bettie Jo Vowell Jennings, aged 89, of Lynchburg, who peacefully departed from this world on Friday, March 15, 2024. Bettie was the beloved wife of the late Thomas Edward Jennings for 59 years, and her absence leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Bettie was born on October 14, 1934, in Lake City, TN, to the late Herbert Dion Vowell and Carrie Smiddy Vowell. In addition to her husband, Bettie was preceded in death by her brother, James A. Vowell, and her sister, Wilma V. Flinchen.
Throughout her life, Bettie epitomized dedication and love as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family was her greatest joy, and she cherished every moment spent with them. A lover of the beach, Bettie found solace and serenity by the sea, where she enjoyed the beauty of nature and the calming rhythm of the waves. She was also a faithful member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church, where her presence will be deeply missed.
Bettie is survived by her two sons, Danny T. Jennings (Robin) and Michael L. Jennings, her grandsons Joshua N. Jennings and Joseph S. Jennings, her sisters Nell V. Boles and Carolyn V. Grace (Bob), as well as several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service to honor Bettie’s life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 22, 2024, in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Service. The service will be officiated by the Rev. Dr. Chris Jordan and the Rev. Dr. Robert A. Putt, with burial to follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
Prior to the funeral service, the family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at Heritage Funeral Service, providing an opportunity for loved ones to offer condolences and support during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make memorial contributions are invited to consider the American Diabetes Association or West Lynchburg Baptist Church, honoring Bettie’s memory and continuing her legacy of kindness and compassion.
Bettie Jo Vowell Jennings touched the lives of many with her warmth, love, and generosity. May her spirit live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her, and may she rest in eternal peace.
