Marguerite Johnson Obituary: Rock Falls, Beloved Mother passed away

Marguerite Johnson Obituary: With heavy hearts, the family of Marguerite “Maggie” Johnson mourns her passing, which occurred on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Rock River Hospice and Home in Sterling. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Maggie, born on February 11, 1931, in Sterling, was the cherished daughter of Leo and Vera Latimer. On September 14, 1948, she exchanged vows with the love of her life, Virden “Pete” Johnson. Together, they built a loving home in Rock Falls, where they raised their three daughters, Connie, Wilma, and Joan, and their son, Mike.

Preceding Maggie in death were her beloved husband, parents, daughter Connie Royer, three brothers Leo, Bud, and Jerry Latimer, two sons-in-law, Bob Atilano and Ed Royer, and one great-grandson, Will Flynn.

She is survived by her daughters Wilma “Willie” (Jerry) Clayton of Peoria and Joan Atilano of Rock Falls, and her son Mike Johnson of Rock Falls. Maggie also leaves behind nine grandchildren, Becky, Tracy, Jill, Kim, Matt, Michelle, Chad, Amber, and Tyler, along with twenty-two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She also leaves behind her cherished friend, Mary Mena.

Maggie was known for her warmth, kindness, and culinary skills. She and Pete delighted in hosting family and friends, sharing meals and creating lasting memories. Maggie’s front porch was a gathering place for those seeking good conversation and a refreshing glass of iced tea.

Visitation to honor Maggie’s life will take place on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at the McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 A.M. officiated by Reverend Richard Russo. The service will be concluded with burial at Calvary Cemetery in Sterling.

Maggie’s legacy of love and hospitality will forever be cherished by those who had the privilege of knowing her. As we bid farewell to this remarkable woman, may her memory continue to bring comfort and inspiration to all whose lives she touched.
