Peppel, affectionately known as Rick, who departed from this world on March 15, 2024, in Berlin Center, Ohio. Born on June 19, 1958, in Salem, Ohio, Rick’s warm presence and infectious laughter touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A proud graduate of David Anderson High School in 1976, Rick dedicated much of his professional life to the field of surface coal mining with Rosebud Mining. His commitment to his community shone brightly through his 22 years of service as a Firefighter/EMT for the Berlin Township Fire Department. Rick’s leadership and bravery were evident to all, culminating in his role as fire chief from 2002 to 2019 until his retirement in 2020.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Rick was a man of many passions. An avid golfer, he found solace and joy on the greens, sharing his love for the game with friends and family alike. His appreciation for nature was reflected in his meticulous care of his yard, where he cultivated beautiful roses and created a serene sanctuary for all to enjoy. Rick’s fondness for hummingbirds added a touch of magic to his garden, where he spent countless hours in quiet admiration of these delicate creatures.
Barbecues, motorcycles, and Starbucks coffee held special places in Rick’s heart, but nothing compared to the joy he found in his grandchildren. Zach, Emma, Harper, Makenna, Alex, Wesley, Kobi, and Kinsley were the light of his life, and he treasured every moment spent with them, showering them with love, laughter, and endless affection.
Rick leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family and community. He will be deeply missed by his loved ones, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
