William Smythe Obituary: Electrician master man died at 82

 William Smythe Obituary: William L. “Bill” Smythe, 82, of Brilliant, OH, peacefully passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Weirton Medical Center.

Born on December 24, 1941, in Steubenville, OH, Bill was the son of the late Adrian H. and Julia T. (Kimak) Smythe. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Beverly Smythe, his second wife, Sharon “MiMi” Smythe, two infant brothers, James and Robert Smythe, one granddaughter, and one great-grandson.

Bill was a skilled master electrician, dedicating many years to work at the Cardinal Plant before venturing out to provide electrical services independently. He also worked from the electrical union hall as a journeyman. Serving his country during the Vietnam Era, Bill was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army. Actively involved in his community, he was a valued member of the Brilliant American Legion Post 573, where he held various leadership positions including commander and 10th district commander. He was also a member of the Jefferson County Veterans Association and was nominated for Veteran of the Year. Additionally, Bill served as the Commodore of the Brilliant Boat Club. A man of deep faith, he was a member of the Brilliant Christian Church and attended the Brilliant Presbyterian Church.

Bill is survived by his four children: Kimberly (Keith) Gardner of Brilliant, OH, Patricia Ann Kenny of Tallapoosa, GA, Darla Robinson of Mingo Junction, OH, and Thomas (Tina) Zook of Wintersville, OH. He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Wheeler Funeral Home, 712 Third St., Brilliant, OH, on Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will commence at 7:00 p.m. with Military Honors by the Brilliant American Legion followed by funeral services conducted by Kenny Kourim, Jr.
