Bob Nuttall Obituary: Martial Arts Legend died from cancer at 72

Bob Nuttall Obituary: Harold Robert “Bob” Nuttall, a revered martial arts Grand Master and beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully at his home on March 15, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was 72 years old.

Born on June 30, 1951, in Wisconsin, Bob was the son of Harold A. and Lucille (Kennedy) Nuttall. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force before dedicating himself to the art of martial arts.

In the 1960s, Bob embarked on a journey into the world of martial arts, where he found not only a passion but also a calling. Under the mentorship of martial arts pioneer J. Pat Burleson, Bob’s dedication and skill saw him rise to the pinnacle of achievement—a 10th Degree Grand Master. This esteemed title, bestowed upon him by his mentor in a ceremony at the Parker County Courthouse on January 8, 2013, marked him as a legend in the martial arts community.

Burleson himself remarked, “There are many people who join the military and serve out long, distinguished careers, but very few 4-star generals, this is a 4-star general award [in Martial Arts]. There aren’t any more after this.” In honor of this exceptional achievement, January 8, 2013, was declared Grand Master Bob Nuttall Day in Parker County, a testament to his unparalleled skill and dedication.

Founding the Karate University in Weatherford on March 15, 1971, Bob dedicated over five decades of his life to mentoring students in the martial arts. His passion for teaching and his unwavering commitment to his students earned him respect and admiration throughout the community.

Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Harold A. and Lucille Nuttall, and his brothers, Cecil Patrick Murphy and Harold A.

A visitation to honor Bob’s life will be held from 6-8pm on Thursday, March 21, 2024, at White’s Funeral Home.
