C.V Jones Obituary: V. (Red) Jones, a legend in the world of radio broadcasting, passed away on March 10, 2024, at the age of 92. Born in Baird, Texas, to Clifford and Christine Jones, Red’s journey in radio spanned over six decades, leaving an indelible mark on the industry and the hearts of countless listeners.

Red’s passion for radio began after high school when he started working in the industry while attending the University of Texas. His talent and dedication soon caught the attention of many, leading him to join the Armed Forces Radio Network during his service in Germany, where he reached audiences across Europe with his 150,000-watt signal.

Upon his return to civilian life, Red’s career soared to new heights. He became an integral part of top stations across the country, including KILT in Houston, Texas, and WQXI in Atlanta, Georgia. His exceptional skills as an air personality and program manager earned him numerous national awards and accolades, solidifying his reputation as one of the best in the business.

Red’s contributions to radio extended beyond his on-air presence. He played a pivotal role in the establishment of the first radio network for the Atlanta Falcons and helped launch one of Atlanta’s first FM stations, WKXI. Throughout his career, he continued to innovate and inspire, leaving an enduring legacy in the broadcasting community.

In addition to his professional achievements, Red was a devoted member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and the Carrollton Golden K Kiwanis Club. He served his community with dedication and humility, embodying the values of compassion and service.

Red was preceded in death by his beloved wives, Betty Collins Jones and Betty McGuire Jones. He is survived by his children Clif (Patti) Jones, Karyn Jones, Camilla Ellenburg, Dean (Patti) Reeves, and Russell (Sheila) Reeves, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Tabernacle Baptist Church on March 21, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., following visitation at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tabernacle Baptist Church in honor of Red’s memory.

Red’s remarkable voice and unwavering dedication to his craft touched the lives of many and will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of listening to him. His legacy will continue to inspire future generations of broadcasters, ensuring that his influence lives on in the world of radio.
