Charles Swauger Obituary: Charles Thomas “Tom” Swauger, Sr., who passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 15, 2024. He was 85 years old.

Born on March 16, 1938, in McCartney, PA, Tom was the son of Bruce Charles and Ruth Bloom Swauger. On June 23, 1959, he embarked on a lifelong journey of love and companionship with his beloved wife, Nancy Ann (Ord) Swauger, whom he cherished for 64 years, and who survives him.

Tom’s life was marked by selfless service and unwavering dedication to his community. He found solace and purpose within the walls of St. Peter’s United Church of Christ, where his faith guided him throughout his years.

His commitment to the DuBois Volunteer Fire Department was unparalleled. Joining its ranks in 1956, he swiftly became an integral part of Volunteer Hose Co #1. Tom’s leadership during the tumultuous times of Hurricane Agnes in 1971 and 1972 earned him admiration and respect. For 68 years, he remained a steadfast mentor, shaping the next generation of firefighters with his wisdom and experience.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Tom’s legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched and the indelible mark he left on his community. His memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation to honor Tom’s life will be held on Monday, March 18, 2024, at the Baronick Funeral Home & Crematorium, Inc., where friends and family will gather to pay their respects. A funeral service, officiated by Pastor Robert Newell, will take place on Tuesday, March 19, 2024.
