Matthew Butcher Obituary: we announce the passing of Matthew Gordon Butcher, 50, of Kent, who departed from this world on Saturday, March 9, 2024. Matthew was born on February 6, 1974, in Beauford, SC, to Carl Butcher and Kathleen (Reish) Rockhold. He was a cherished husband, father, son, brother, veteran, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service.
Matthew proudly served his country as a US Marine Corps veteran and continued his commitment to service as a dedicated member of the Kent Police Department. After 22 years of selfless service, he retired last spring, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of protecting and serving his community. Matthew’s unwavering dedication and professionalism made a lasting impact on all those he encountered during his tenure in law enforcement.
Known for his big personality and wonderfully kind heart, Matthew touched the lives of many with his infectious smile, genuine compassion, and unwavering loyalty. He had a passion for motorcycling, hiking, and soaking up the sunshine, but above all else, Matthew’s greatest joy was his family. He cherished every moment spent with his beloved wife, Alisen, and their children, Graysen Olivia, Keelin Gordon, and Mikayla Renee. His love for his family knew no bounds, and his presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Matthew is survived by his devoted wife, Alisen; children, Graysen, Keelin, and Mikayla; mother, Kathleen Rockhold (Dennis); brother, Gregory Butcher (Valerie); and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his sister, Jessica Butcher.
Memorial calling hours will be held from 4 PM until the time of the memorial service at 7 PM on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the Kent Roosevelt High School Auditorium. Reverend Karen B. Drotar will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kent Social Services, honoring Matthew’s spirit of giving and compassion.
