Born on November 19, 1959, to Richard and Ronna (Muldoon) Schlageter in Eau Claire, WI, Steve’s upbringing in Lake Hallie and later Cornell shaped him into the beloved son, brother, husband, father, papa, and friend that he was. His magnetic personality, music, humor, and genuine interest in people touched the lives of countless individuals.
Steve led a remarkable life marked by numerous accomplishments. He dedicated much of his time to community events and the Cornell Jaycees, showcasing his commitment to service. His bands, including Frisk, Jim Creek Boys, Night Rider, Phoenix, and Intent, brought joy to many.
Aside from his musical pursuits, Steve wore many hats throughout his life, from construction worker to bartender, from maintenance at Gilman Nursing Home to gate supervisor at Country/Rock Fest, and from chef at Rock Lake Resort to various other occupations. He found joy in bowling, cheering on the Packers, indulging in Star Trek, playing pinochle, camping, and spending quality time with family and friends.
Despite facing the daunting challenge of tongue and ureter cancer last year, Steve approached it with unwavering positivity and resilience. He fought bravely, supported by the dedicated staff at the Mayo Cancer Center in Eau Claire.
Steve is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years, Nancy Schlageter, his children Jennifer, Nicole, Steven Jr (Stephanie), and Kiara.
