William Poretta Obituary: we announce the passing of William C. Poretta, age 89, of Hellertown, who departed from this world on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Cedarbrook-Fountain Hill. He was the beloved husband of the late Pauline Poretta.
William, affectionately known as Bill, was born on July 26, 1934, in Alpha, N.J., to the late Jennifer Cartwright and Frank Anthony Porretta. He served his country with honor and distinction in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, demonstrating unwavering dedication to his nation.
Throughout his life, Bill excelled in various endeavors with remarkable dedication. He worked as a Blue fitter, contributing to the construction of iconic structures such as the Empire State Building. Bill was a devout member of St. Theresa of the Child Jesus Roman Catholic Church in Hellertown, finding solace and strength in his faith.
Beyond his professional and spiritual pursuits, Bill was renowned for his passion for bodybuilding and powerlifting. He achieved numerous accolades, including titles such as Mr. Lehigh Valley, Mr. Arizona, and Mr. California. His commitment to physical fitness and strength was unparalleled, earning him the respect and admiration of many.
In addition to his achievements in sports, Bill was deeply involved in community organizations. He served as the president of the Lehigh Valley Sports Hall of Fame and the Scholar Athlete Organization, leaving a lasting impact on the local sports community. He was also actively involved in wrestling tournaments as a scorekeeper, demonstrating his enduring dedication to the sport.
Bill leaves behind a legacy of love and strength. He is survived by his children: Paula Kohler of Tucson, Ariz.; Jami Azzaro (Perry) of Hellertown; John (Marie) Poretta of Bethlehem; Cheryl (Dennis) Rowe of Bethlehem; grandchildren: Tyler, Carmen, Jimmy, Zachary, Amber, Enzo, Jeremy, Mickel; and 11 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by nieces Karen and Kathy. He was predeceased by his granddaughter Sheila Kolesnik and siblings Frank Poretta and Bernice Shotko.
A man of unwavering strength and dedication, Bill touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him
