Angela Chao Obituary: Angela Chao, a prominent figure in the shipping industry and sister to Elaine Chao, the wife of Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, tragically lost her life in a car accident in Texas in February.
She was 50 years old.The accident occurred when Chao’s car was submerged in a pond on a private ranch in Johnson City, 40 miles from Austin.
Despite efforts by EMS responders to resuscitate her for 43 minutes, Chao was unable to be revived and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Initial reports from the Blanco County Sheriff’s Office described the incident as “an unfortunate accident, but later investigations revealed that Chao was heavily intoxicated at the time of the crash, with her blood alcohol content nearly three times the state’s legal limit.
Witnesses recounted that Chao had been attending a dinner party earlier in the evening and had made frantic calls to friends after becoming trapped in her vehicle. Despite their efforts to rescue her, they were unable to reach her in time.
