Ismael Delcid,18: In a tragic turn of events, an 18-year-old suspect has turned himself in for the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old Westfield High School student on Wednesday.
The Fairfax County Police Department announced the arrest of Ismael Cruz-Delcid of Herndon at a press conference, shedding light on a devastating incident that has shaken the community.
Authorities suspect that Cruz-Delcid knew the victim, who tragically lost his life after being shot outside the Sonesta Extended Stay Suites in the McNair area of Herndon.
Another teenager was targeted during the two rounds of firing but miraculously escaped unharmed.
Charges against Cruz-Delcid include second-degree murder, the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and felony distribution of cocaine, stemming from a previous narcotics investigation, according to police reports.

The shooting unfolded after a verbal altercation between the three teens in the hotel parking lot, marking a grim escalation of tensions that ended in tragedy.
While the motive remains under investigation, Police Chief Kevin Davis expressed concern over the increasing trend of firearms being used to settle disputes, labeling it a nationwide challenge.
The victims’ familiarity with each other suggests a neighborhood association rather than gang-related activity, although ongoing verbal disputes between the teens are still being probed.
Cruz-Delcid’s decision to surrender came after discussions between law enforcement and his attorney. He has not provided any statement to the police and is currently being held without bond.
The suspected shooter, a recent graduate of Mountain View Alternative High School in Centreville, has left a community in mourning.
Fairfax County Public Schools Superintendent Michelle Reid has ensured counseling support for students at Westfield and Herndon High School, as well as other affected schools, recognizing the need for emotional assistance during this trying time.
As investigations continue and the community grapples with this senseless tragedy, hearts are heavy with grief, and the loss of a young life serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for peace and understanding in our society.
