Jason Jenkins Rockford, IL: 18-year-old, Jason Jenkins, Auburn High School student and employee died in a Rockford Walmart stabbing.
The Winnebago County Coroner has identified 18-year-old Jason Jenkins, a student at Auburn High School, as the Walmart employee who was tragically murdered in a random attack inside a Rockford store on Sunday night.
Rockford Police responded to the incident at the Walmart on 3849 Northridge Drive around 6:05 p.m.
Surveillance video from the store reportedly showed 28-year-old Timothy Carter grabbing two knives off the shelves—a silver kitchen knife and a red hunting knife—and then wandering around the store, giving African American people dirty looks.
Carter allegedly walked up behind Jenkins and stabbed him once in the back, as described in the court documents. Witnesses heard Jenkins screaming for help, and one person reported hearing Carter utter a racial slur after the stabbing.
Jenkins was rushed to Javon Bea Mercyhealth Riverside, where he underwent emergency surgery but tragically passed away at 7:48 p.m. Carter has been arrested and charged with First Degree Murder.
