according to police reports. His body was recovered from the New River by a police dive team. The incident occurred over the weekend, with Morris reported missing on Saturday after he was last seen in downtown Fort Lauderdale.
Morris, a cadet at the U.S. Military Academy, was in Fort Lauderdale with three friends. Authorities believe his death to be an accidental drowning, with no suspicion of foul play.
The West Point community expressed their condolences to the Morris family, recognizing him as a valued member of the Corps of Cadets committed to serving his country as an Army Officer.
Described as a bright and resilient young man with a determination to succeed, Morris was mourned by his tactical officer, Maj. Rebecca Gogue Morrison.
