Ronnie Metcalf Death: According to the Lexington Fire Department, Firefighter Captain Ronnie Metcalf was pronounced dead at the Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Health Medical Center in Winston-Salem on Friday.

The Lexington Fire Department is mourning the loss of Firefighter Captain Ronnie Metcalf, who tragically passed away after sustaining severe injuries while responding to a house fire earlier in the week.

According to reports, Captain Metcalf succumbed to life-threatening burn wounds, covering 60 percent of his body, at the Atrium Wake Forest Baptist Health Medical Center in Winston-Salem on Friday.

The incident occurred when fire crews responded to a house fire call just after midnight on Tuesday.

Upon arrival, they encountered flames and smoke emanating from the back of the residence. Despite their efforts to extinguish the fire, structural concerns prompted an evacuation order.

During the evacuation, it was discovered that Captain Metcalf was missing. Search teams bravely reentered the building and located him, but tragically, he had sustained severe injuries.

Emergency crews administered immediate treatment at the scene before airlifting him to the medical center.

Captain Metcalf, a 19-year veteran of the Lexington Fire Department, leaves behind a grieving family, including his wife and children.

Beyond his service as a firefighter, he was also an active member of the Hillside Park Baptist Church.
