Carl Jensen 79, Former Norfolk Southern Steam man passed away

Carl Jensen 79: Carl Jensen, the esteemed manager of the renowned Norfolk Southern steam program in the late 1980s and early 1990s, passed away on March 25 2024 at the age of 87.

Jensen’s influence extended beyond his role at Norfolk Southern, as he played a significant part in the National Railroad Historical Society, holding various leadership positions within the organization and its local chapters.

However, he will be most remembered in the railroad community for his tenure as the manager of the NS steam program from 1986 to 1984, a period marked by both exhilarating highs and challenging lows.

Despite these accomplishments, Jensen also navigated through difficult times, including the abrupt decision by NS management to discontinue the program in late 1994.
