Hoormazd Javidbakht, a 17-year-old student at Olentangy Liberty High School, tragically passed away on Friday due to injuries sustained in a recent accident.
Just over two weeks prior, he was hit by an SUV while improperly crossing a four-lane street in Powell, as reported by the Powell Police Department.
The incident occurred on March 14 at approximately 7:45 p.m., shortly after sunset, when Javidbakht attempted to cross Sawmill Parkway at Village Club Drive despite a pedestrian no-crossing signal.
He was struck by the SUV, which resulted in him being rushed to a local hospital. Fortunately, the driver and two passengers in the SUV did not sustain any injuries.
Javidbakht was listed on the roster for the Olentangy Liberty boys varsity track team for the 2022/2023 school year, according to the school’s athletics website. In an email sent to parents by Olentangy Liberty Principal Mike Starner on Saturday, and subsequently shared on social media, it was confirmed that Javidbakht had participated in track, cross country, and choir during his time at the school.
