Rikki Tako Obituary: A tragic loss has struck the Taranaki community as Rikki Tako, a young father, has passed away at the age of 32.

Tako was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer, glioblastoma brain stem tumour, following a workplace incident late last year in New Plymouth.

Despite the challenges posed by his diagnosis, Tako and his partner Nykalah Garrett found a moment of joy when they exchanged vows in a heartfelt ceremony just a week before his passing. The couple tied the knot at a beach near New Plymouth.

Garrett, who had quit her job as a registered nurse to care for Tako full-time, described their journey as an exhausting battle with no hope in sight.

She detailed their daily routine, which revolved around Tako’s needs, including hospice appointments and managing household tasks while ensuring their children were taken care of.
