Carl Simpson Obituary: Sumter, Simpson Hardware owner died at 82

Carl Simpson Obituary: Sumter, Owner Of Simpson Hardware, Carl Marks Simpson, III., 82, husband of Catherine “Cathy” Mellon Simpson, died Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

Carl Simpson was born in Montgomery, Alabama, Carl Marks Simpson, Jr., was the son of the late Carl Marks Simpson, Jr., and Frances Ray Simpson.

He earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of South Carolina and went on to become the owner of Simpsons Hardware. Despite the loss of the Palmetto Plaza Store in a fire, he was named Sumter’s 2002 Business Person of the Year. Carl was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and a member of St. James Lutheran Church.

Surviving are his wife; three daughters, Leigh Carraway (Frankie), Amy Ohl (Jeremy), and Molly Matthews (Shawn); one brother, Robert Simpson (Vicki); and two sisters, Anne Simpson and Jan King (George).

Graveside services will be held at 2 P.M. Sunday at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Scott Landrum officiating.
