William Billy McLeod Obituary: Commander in chief at Black Crest Farms, William R. “Billy” McLeod, 93, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at his home.

William Billy McLeod, born on February 24, 1931, in Sumter County, was the son of the late Gilbert K. McLeod and the late Willie Sue Pierson McLeod.

He entered the grocery business in 1954 and owned multiple Piggly Wiggly Grocery Stores. For 65 years, he was also involved in the Black Angus cattle business as the owner of Black Crest Farms.

Billy was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and a lifetime member of the Gamecock Club.

Survivors include three children: W.R. “Ricky” McLeod, Jr. (Sondra) of Manning, Gilbert Mark McLeod (Sandy) of Sumter, and Martha Melissa McLeod (Steve) of Sumter; six grandchildren: Becky McLeod, Will McLeod (Jill), Ashleigh Sommerville (Eric), John Skinner (Christine), Wade Skinner (Sarah), and Ezra McLeod; seven great-grandchildren; step-sons, Robbie Jordan (Lisa) and Rodney Jordan (Sissy); five step-grandchildren; and a special friend, Jan Whitaker.

A funeral service will be held at 1 P.M. on Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, with Mr. Gilbert Griffin and Mr. Billy Griffin officiating.

Burial will follow in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. on Friday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.
